Home of the Falcons since 1952

Cardiff Bowling Club carries a direct connection to the original Cardiff Bowling Club in Sophia Gardens, Wales — right down to the insignia on our crest. More than 70 years on, we're still the local bowlo for Cardiff, NSW.

Our history

From Sophia Gardens to Myall Road

  1. 1878The original Cardiff Bowling Club is built in Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, Wales — later a lawn bowls venue for the 1958 British Empire & Commonwealth Games.
  2. 1947A public meeting establishes the Cardiff Amenities Committee to develop local sporting facilities, including a proposed bowling green.
  3. 1952The bowling club committee holds its inaugural meeting on 7 January, electing I. Forbes as founding President — with permission granted to use the insignia of the Welsh Cardiff Bowling Club.
  4. 1953First games played on the green on 10 May; the No. 1 green is officially opened on 14 November.
  5. 1954The clubhouse is officially opened on 20 November.
  6. 1956The second green is completed.
  7. 1964The club wins its first NDBA Pennant premiership.
  8. 1996A synthetic green is installed alongside the original turf green.
  9. 2009The club's first website is launched.
  10. 2020–21Temporary closures during the COVID-19 pandemic; the on-site bistro is relaunched under new management.

Facilities

Bar, TAB, Keno, Sky Racing, Fox Sports, two greens, an air-conditioned auditorium, and family-friendly spaces including a kids play area.

Access & governance

Accessibility & grants

Our bowling arms, wheelchair ramp, and grab poles on the grass green were funded by a grant from the NSW Government, helping make bowls more accessible for everyone.

Governance

Cardiff Bowling Club Co-operative Limited operates under club rules registered with Bowls NSW and follows the Bowls NSW Member Protection Policy. ABN 15 476 795 684.
